Policy
The UNC Charlotte Violence Prevention Center engages in applied and translational research to benefit the public. The Center partners with policymakers, local governments, and organizations to provide evidence-based policy recommendations in addressing violence.
Under the leadership of VPC’s Associate Director of Education & Training, Dr. Rob Cramer, and Assistant Director of UNC Charlotte’s Center for Wellness Promotion, Sarah Besse, the UNC Charlotte Campus Suicide Prevention Task Force has developed a comprehensive strategic plan addressing the pressing mental health and suicide concerns impacting students both nationally and in North Carolina. With contributions from VPC faculty and trainees, including Dr. Sam Cacace, Dr. Annelise Mennicke, Sasha Zabelski, Ava Peters, and Alaka’i Bene, this collaborative effort is rooted in hope and action. The plan aims to foster a thriving campus environment that prioritizes student well-being and mental health support.
Dr. Apryl Alexander shared best practices for addressing youth crime and violence in Charlotte with the Housing, Safety, & Community Committee of the Charlotte City Council. A recap of the meeting can be found on WCNC Charlotte’s site here.
