Center Director Dr. Apryl Alexander was recently featured in a national USA TODAY article examining the broader impact of domestic violence and trauma following the tragic Shreveport mass shooting.

In the article, Dr. Alexander discussed the psychological effects of repeated exposure to traumatic news coverage and emphasized the importance of addressing domestic violence as a systemic issue rather than becoming desensitized to it.

“I’m hoping that people are not becoming numb or immune to this,” Alexander said. “In order for us to think about solutions, we all have to be invested in really examining the underlying factors behind these incidents.”

The feature highlights Dr. Alexander’s expertise in violence prevention, trauma, and public mental health, while also reinforcing the center’s ongoing commitment to research, advocacy, and community education around interpersonal violence.
