Kate Freeman

Kate is a Master’s student in the School of Social Work, College of Health and Human Services. She is a member of the Masculinities Lab, where she is mentored by Dr. Braveheart Gillani. Her research interests include therapeutic modalities and intervention, the socialization of gender and gender performance, trauma, identity, relational dynamics, embodiment, gender-affirming healthcare, and anti-racist pedagogy. She holds a B.A. in History and Romance Languages from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and previously worked in library sciences with a focus on data science. Her 2026 clinical internship is at Cano Family Services, a private practice in Charlotte. Kate seeks to become a practicing licensed clinical social worker while also contributing to the field through research. Outside of academic pursuits, she enjoys yoga, music, and spending time in nature with friends.
