Under the leadership of VPC’s Associate Director of Education & Training, Dr. Rob Cramer, and Assistant Director of UNC Charlotte’s Center for Wellness Promotion, Sarah Besse, the UNC Charlotte Campus Suicide Prevention Task Force has developed a comprehensive strategic plan addressing the pressing mental health and suicide concerns impacting students both nationally and in North Carolina. With contributions from VPC faculty and trainees, including Dr. Sam Cacace, Dr. Annelise Mennicke, Sasha Zabelski, Ava Peters, and Alaka’i Bene, this collaborative effort is rooted in hope and action. The plan aims to foster a thriving campus environment that prioritizes student well-being and mental health support.

VPC, in partnership with the NC Department of Adult Correction, released the Core Competency Model for Corrections (CCM-C) Toolkit, led by Dr. Robert J. Cramer, with contributions from Dr. Lewis J. Peiper, Skyler Prowten, and Dr. Sarah C. Cacace. This evidence-based resource equips behavioral health clinicians with practical training and tools to prevent self-directed violence in carceral settings while supporting clinician well-being.
Developed by Dr. Annelise Mennicke and colleagues, this groundbreaking report highlights key research and policy gaps in preventing child and familial sex trafficking (CST/FST). Drawing on a national consortium of experts, the publication identifies six critical challenges from the absence of coordinated research pipelines to underutilized technology and workforce burnout and offers actionable strategies to strengthen prevention, screening, and intervention.

Dr. Annelise Mennicke and PhD Student Jasmine Temple joined UNC Charlotte Chancellor Gaber in a roundtable discussion with Congresswoman Alma Adams.
